Ladies Who Lunch

Women Who Wander NB

Adventure Two

Those of you who know the Women Who Wander well, know that we are outstanding in our field, so you won’t be surprised to hear that this week on our adventures, we were out standing in quite a few fields! Fields of flowers that is! And yes, we like to think (however delusional we may be) that we were outstanding in those fields as well.

We began our wandering at the less than decent hour of 9 am given that our intended route required extra time. Our starting point, (which I am not permitted to disclose on social media) was once again LT’s place.

Given the hour, BST and YT were sent to the garden whilst LT shucked her night time apparel (as attractive as it was), for a very nautical outfit, befitting our coastal destination of St.Andrews By The Sea.

We are well aware that everyone who is anyone in the tourism business has written about St. Andrews and the surrounding area but few have seen it through the eyes of The Women Who Wander. You are about to become the first!

Our chosen route was selected on: a) ease of getting coffee for the trip and b) arriving at our chosen eating establishment at lunch time! Vacationers should never compromise on these points. Especially if travelling with YT who NEEDS her coffee and LT for whom the word “hangry” was invented! Overdue for coffee or overdue for food; neither is recommended!

And so, we filled up at Tim Horton’s on Regent Street in Fredericton, NB and headed down the highway with coffee in hand, toward Route 7.

Although the day was a tad on the foggy side, the only thing that a damper was put upon, was our hairdos! Our first stop (well, third actually if you count the first two Tim Hortons stops), was Canada Green Nursery located at 88 Mt. Pleasant Road, St. George, NB. Although Canada Green has been in operation for 30 years, we only discovered it a couple of years ago and, boy, are we glad we did! Perhaps it’s the fog that helps but we guarantee you will find the most awesome greenery, amazing choice of varieties and the healthiest plants ever at this Nursery. In addition, the variety of planters and garden accessories is awesome! They have ponds and statuary throughout along with magnificent shrubs and trees.

We parted with a few shekels and loaded the trunk of the Incredible Wander Wheels (the car) with a few plants!

We give Canada Green a huge Women Who Wander Three Cheers Award for being outstanding-in-their-field and we highly recommend that you go stand out in their fields too!

What senses we have were on overload after this experience and so, we decided to meander through St. George, NB and calmly enjoy the downtown streetscape of this charming town before picking up the highway to St. Andrews By The Sea. We took note that Main Street in St. George had lots of interesting little shops including an “I-do-so-love-a-good-bakery” bake shop. Although we didn’t have time for deeper exploration, we think we may have to do a return trip!

Next stop, lunch with a capital L at Kingsbrae Garden Café located at Kingsbrae Garden, 220 King Street in St. Andrews, NB!

There really are no words to describe the food and the ambience of the Kingsbrae Garden Café on the garden grounds! Yes, it’s pricey but we are so worth it and so are you. The food, the artwork, the building, the décor - all are beautiful and a delicious sensory experience all around!

Go! Just go! Take your best friends and pretend you’re rich! If we can do it, so can you!

A Women Who Wander Three Cheers Award worthy all the way! And the lobster bisque though........!

From lunch to an afternoon wander in the gardens. Doesn’t that just sound like something Lady Mary of Downton Abbey would do??? Well it’s exactly what we three lady Wanderers did do - minus the parasols and fancy dresses of course! No matter how many times we visit Kingsbrae, it never fails to take our breath away! And not just because we don’t exercise enough ..... and certainly not because we sometimes feel as old as the 200 Million Year Old tree.

Around every corner, is a picture waiting to be taken!

The most exquisite flowers, the most amazing blooming shrubs, the maze, the waterfall, the baby goats and llamas and the little playhouses that the Women Who Wander fit nicely in!

Kingsbrae is definitely worthy of several Women Who Wander Three Cheers Awards! And, of course, we offer a big shout out for their rigorous Covid program which requires guests to give their name and contact info when dining at the Garden Café for contact tracing purposes. Their Covid program alone deserves a Women Who Wander Three Cheers Award!

On our way out of town, we stopped to say "hi" to our good buddy, Lee Heenan, who has a most adorable home and garden and is himself, adorable. (Much like LT, though, he wouldn’t necessarily want all of you to drop by, so we won’t include his address:)

A quick stop at Tim Horton’s to refuel and we were on our way home via Harvey Station. Another awesome Women Who Wander NB day and escapade # 2 is in the hopper! We can't wait for our next road trip!

Just adventure!
